Mangroves
About 2.98 million hectares of mangrove are mapped across Africa for 2025, with change since 1996 shown country by country.
Seagrass and salt marsh
Atlas holds 7,136 seagrass records in 25 African countries and 116 salt marsh records in 16 countries, from the UNEP-WCMC global layers. These record what has been surveyed, so a gap on the map does not mean the habitat is absent, and salt marsh coverage in Africa is patchy. These layers are view-only under the publisher’s licence.
