Atlas Blue Carbon Intelligence is a nature and climate intelligence platform for Africa. Blue carbon, beginning with mangroves, is its flagship, and it grows well beyond it.
One map, every source traced
Atlas brings mangroves, seagrass, salt marsh, protected areas, roads, settlements, water, wildlife and carbon projects onto one map. Every feature links back to the source record, the dataset, its version and the original file, so every number can be checked.
What you can do
- Explore the map. Switch layers on and off, filter by class or size, and click any feature for its source and provenance.
- Track change. See how mangrove extent has changed country by country since 1996.
- Study carbon projects. Browse registry projects, the organisations behind them and, where the record says so, the communities they work with.
- Test scenarios. Explore what loss or restoration would mean in hectares and carbon.
- Ask in plain language. The Atlas analyst answers questions from the data and shows its working.
