Husna Mbarak

Food and Agriculture Organization Representative

FAO - Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

Husna Abdalla Mbarak is the Lead Governance of Natural Resources and Land Governance Programme Manager, and Gender Focal Point at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Kenya Representation. She is one of East Africa's foremost authorities on land governance, natural resource rights, and gender-inclusive rural development policy.

Husna holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Law from the University of Nairobi and a Master's degree from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). She previously served as a Project Development Officer at USAID, a Public Outreach and Statement Taking Officer at Kenya's Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission, and a Senior Human Rights Officer at Muhuri — a trajectory reflecting deep commitment to justice, governance, and community rights.

At FAO, she has championed initiatives connecting land governance reform to food security and gender equity, and has led efforts to establish GIS laboratories across Kenya to improve land data management and amplify the voice of women smallholder farmers in national and international policy discussions.

At the NGO Summit 2026, Husna brings FAO's institutional weight and her expertise in land rights, environmental governance, and gender equity — offering NGOs critical frameworks for integrating food security and land justice into their programming.
